Maybe? Some will. Not all will get it or care. Some will actively hate it. I had one person say, “It’s great that you finished, but that doesn’t mean the novel is great.” That took a few days and some oolong tea to get over.
I have come a long way with rejection and negative feedback. There was a time when I couldn’t let anyone read my writing due to the fear of looking like a fool who thinks she can write. I’m still sensitive, although my confidence is higher. I take more risks in putting my work out there. Whether that is through queries, beta readers, contests, or various workshops.
I’m currently working with a mentor to help polish my beginning pages. She has never read any of my writing, so this could go any way. Although the correspondence I have had with her so far makes me think she will be honest and constructive. Here’s to a productive review that will help me become a stronger writer!
What do you do to get over the sting of rejection or negative reviews?
